Programs of Study

Five tracks are being offered, two at the undergraduate level and three at the post graduate level. The BS/BA is a three year Program and the MBA and Master’s requires on average a 1 - 2 years to be completed.

 

Undergraduate Level

 


The BA (Hons) Business and Management Studies degree (with or without pathways) continues to be a highly popular and vibrant programme within Cardiff School of Management. The 2015 National Student Survey showed an 96% overall satisfaction rate for the programme.

The content of the programme is continually updated to ensure as far as possible, the currency and relevance of the modules studied. Consequently the outline of the programme provided below will inevitably be subject to some change.

 

The course structure develops from a compulsory first year, consisting of six modules, to only two compulsory modules in the final year of study. This will enable you to direct your interests into a specialised pathway or specific set of option modules, whilst ensuring that you receive a sound understanding and appreciation of the central tenants required of all business and management students. The programme also allows for considerable flexibility to ensure that you are academically guided in your ultimate choice as to whether to graduate with a BA (Hons) Business and Management Studies degree, or a BA (Hons) Business and

 


Professionally accredited by the British Computer Society, this course is designed to develop your knowledge and expertise in the use of information systems and the importance of computing and information technology in modern business environments. You will also be exposed to the state-ofthe art research that is poised to shape and transform the business computing and IT industry over the next decade.

The School has strong links with industry and relevant technology companies throughout the UK and Europe. All students have the opportunity to participate in the research and student exchange programmes. Postgraduate Level

 

 

This is a contemporary programme targeted at professionals and practitioners working in the sport and leisure industry who wish to develop their leadership practice and/or seek new opportunities. The programme is equally attractive to recent graduates seeking to develop their knowledge and employment potential as well as any students who wish to study on a programme from a UK premier university for sport.

 

  • Master’s of Business Administration (Generic MBA)

 

Masters in Business Administration is an internationally recognized and respected academic qualification. The Generic MBA provides students with the opportunity to choose their elective modules. This MBA encourages independent and creative thinking by giving students a strong practical and professional orientation differentiating it from other Masters programmes.

Library Services: BAL’s library services are a combination of MUBS’s library and CMU’s library. The MUBS Library gives you access to a variety of resources for all realms and fields, while also ensuring your access to major journals in the world through the EBSCO host e-library. Moreover, through CMU’s e-library account you will have access to all the books, journals, and research at CMU’s library in Cardiff, Wales.

The MBA is an internationally recognised and respected qualification for managers. The teaching programme is aimed at those who are looking to develop their careers and at ‘high flyers’ that need an understanding of all the major functions of business providing generalist knowledge for prospective leaders. In addition to enhancing successful students’ career prospects, the course aims to encourage independent and creative thinkers. This is done by following the UK Quality Assurance Agency guidelines in giving students a ‘strong practical and professional orientation’ differentiating it from other masters programmes.

 

  • MSc in International Hospitality and Tourism Management

 

Tourism and Hospitality is one of the fastest growing global sectors.

 

This cohesive programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management is designed to enable students to develop concepts and theories related to hospitality or tourism management. It provides students with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in order to deepen their critical understanding of operational and management issues within the tourism and hospitality sector. Modules stimulate critical thinking and use multidisciplinary perspectives to transform management problems into opportunities by the provision of an industry relevant, research-led and student-driven programme designed to develop the next generation of self-reflective managers. Using a live case study, provide students with the opportunity to experience and assess the physical and cultural resources of the tourism and hospitality industry.

 

Career Potential: Tourism and Hospitality has assumed a critical role in the global economy accounting for about 10% of jobs worldwide. Our programmes have many distinct features that will directly benefit students and give a competitive edge. The programmes are designed to promote and encourage the development of advanced management knowledge and skills. Applicants include people progressing from undergraduate qualifications in the social sciences and humanities as well as from more applied and inter-disciplinary undergraduate programmes such as Tourism Management, Hospitality Management or Events Management.
